The feeling of ...However, it isn't "for no reason." The feeling of having no purpose can be a very empty feeling. If someone feels that the only purpose in life is to get up every day and do the same things over and over until one day, you die, he or she may want to just get it over with. I can identify with that feeling. I'm not saying I want to kill myself; I'm just saying that life can be boring and seem meaningless.

FWIW: I am an Atheist. I sometimes wish that I COULD believe in some kind of afterlife, so that it would seem that there was a purpose to all of this, but I logically, I can't. Also, I do agree that her is a hoax, but I believe from personal experience that your logic is flawed.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6109581212220604045.post-88587490063780879062008-02-13T03:00:00.000-08:002008-02-13T03:00:00.000-08:00i agree, But i did say that an atheist is less lik...i agree, But i did say that an atheist is less likely to kill themselves for no reason than someone who believes there is something after death.[ Matt ]https://www.blogger.com/profile/07718525431511823203noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6109581212220604045.post-66615128724216450302008-02-13T02:06:00.000-08:002008-02-13T02:06:00.000-08:00When I read the line about being an atheist I thou...When I read the line about being an atheist I thought it was a religious person as well and there was going to be a fabricated story with some spiritual inspiration to live. Just because I thought it was odd for her to say that.

But as far as an atheist being less likely to commit suicide I don't see that as logical. A depressed atheist would have to have a deeper sense of hopelessness than someone who believes in some sort of reason for their depression. I believe God challenges us and pushes us harder than we feel capable of overcoming to motivate us, teach us and force us to grow and gain insight. Additionally Christianity considers it a sin to kill yourself.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6109581212220604045.post-52193864409217859542008-02-12T20:12:00.000-08:002008-02-12T20:12:00.000-08:00Agreed. I'm guessing the storyline is that someone -- perhaps this fella at work who asked her out for a Valentine's Day date -- is going to introduce her to Jesus. Reluctantly, she will realize that the Lord is her Savior, and that suicide is the Path to Hell.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
