The following is from a bill that was passed.
Resolved, That the House of Representatives--So much for a seperation of church and state, Well it was good while it lasted.
(1) recognizes the Christian faith as one of the great religions of the world;
(2) expresses continued support for Christians in the United States and worldwide;
(3) acknowledges the international religious and historical importance of Christmas and the Christian faith;
(4) acknowledges and supports the role played by Christians and Christianity in the founding of the United States and in the formation of the western civilization;
(5) rejects bigotry and persecution directed against Christians, both in the United States and worldwide; and
(6) expresses its deepest respect to American Christians and Christians throughout the world
My own state representative was one of the sponsors of this resolution. :(
ReplyDeleteI had my panties in a wad about this till someone pointed out that similar resolutions had already been passed in the name of Islam and Hinduism. Feel-good legislation?
Still sticks in my craw. You can bet that the fundies will use it to point to the "Christian nation" idiocy they blather on about.
This resolution has no actual power. It is one of hundreds of ceremonial resolutions Congress passes every year. It certainly does not turn us into a theocracy. Remember, a theocracy involves replacing secular law with religious law.
