Top 10 Banned Books In America

It seems the religious right are still stamping their feet, But this time they aren't telling us what we can do or say, They are telling us what we can read.

Here is a list of the ten most banned books in America (By most banned we mean banned in most states). Thanks to the American Library Association who compile this list for giving us an insight in to what really pisses the religious off.

"And Tango Makes Three" - for homosexuality, anti-family, and unsuited to age group;

"Gossip Girls" - for homosexuality, sexual content, drugs, unsuited to age group, and offensive language;

"Alice" - for sexual content and offensive language;

"The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things" - for sexual content, anti-family, offensive language, and unsuited to age group;

"The Bluest Eye" - for sexual content, offensive language, and unsuited to age group;

"Scary Stories" - for occult/Satanism, unsuited to age group, violence, and insensitivity;

"Athletic Shorts" - for homosexuality and offensive language;

"The Perks of Being a Wallflower" - for homosexuality, sexually explicit, offensive language, and unsuited to age group;

"Beloved" - for offensive language, sexual content, and unsuited to age group;

"The Chocolate War" - for sexual content, offensive language, and violence.

They sure don't like homosexuality those Christians. Makes one wonder why their god would have created them in the first place.

If i had my way the christian bible would be on this list for genocide, infanticide, murder, incest, Telling people to "rip open pregnant women" and various other horrific acts.

If you can get your hands on any of these book do society a favour. Buy a few copies and leave them in place of the bible in various Churches.

  2. Actually my god (the christian god) did created homosexuals, bisexuals (I am one of those), heterosexuals, asexuals, and pansexuals (also known as omnisexual). The books you listed don't piss me off, and I'm religious. I go to church once a week, at least I try. My parents never made me go, in fact they aren't christians.
    I am strongly against censorship because life is not all good and happy. There is sex, violence, war, genocide, and so on. You are right the bible has all of those things, and many many more violent and grotesque stuff in it.
    I believe every school should have bibles, qurans, torahs, talmuds, vedas, and other various holy books in their school libraries. Also of course athiestic writings critiquing religion, and also explaining one's particular view of athiesm.
    I believe Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn should not be censored. The only thing I think should not be allowed in public schools is pornography. Things like playboy, or playgirl (whatever your pleasure may be).
    Please do not group all us christians, and religious people into one general group. Please use more specific language. Be more exact, and open minded. Don't close your mind to religion because a lot of people are stupid. Religious or not, athiest or not, people are stupid. They do stupid things, for stupid reasons. That is a fact of life, and not the cause of religion.

    I completely agree, thank you for writing this amazing statement. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this

  6. honestly as a christian i beleive that god created all people to be equal but some people chose to live their lives a different way i have no problem with that. The number one book i would of thought would be banned would of been the satanic bible.

  7. okay seriously, you athiests are retards. do you just make stuff up? because half of this stuff, no all of this stuff on this website is crap. seriously. this website is sick! ovcourse God is real!
    WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU??!! God is awesome, and he saved my life, and saying that he created homosexuals is true, but he diddnt create them to be homosexual, they were born perfect, and chose to be that way, so dont talk like he creates people that way. it says in the bible, he creates everyone equal. wow what does it say in your bible? worship rocks not God!
    well thats retarted, just like you.
    have a nice day:)

  8. God created everyone to be equal. That includes people of all race, ethnicity, religion, gender, and sexual orientation. God loves everyone, even if they are homosexual, or bisexual, or heterosexual, or anything else. This is because He gave us free will, and He loves us no matter what we choose.

    "okay seriously, you athiests are retards." Please, people, share the love. W.W.J.D.? People are entitled to their opinions-- that's their right as a human being made by God. Alright, so they don't believe in God, our Creator. Hopefully, in time, they will find God, and if not, then that's what they choose. God doesn't love anyone less because they don't believe in Him-- He just loves them all the more in the hope that they find Him again.

    "If i had my way the christian bible would be on this list for genocide, infanticide, murder, incest, Telling people to "rip open pregnant women" and various other horrific acts."
    I have read the Bible many times in my life, and I don't ever remember reading anything about God telling people to 'rip open pregnant women.' Also, in Genesis, God stops Abraham before he kills his son Isaac-- He doesn't want people to kill their children or their brothers and sisters in Christ. The Bible is not a fictitious piece of literature-- it is a documentation of the past, written by people who, granted, were not there, but were inspired by the Holy Spirit to write it. As odd and scandalous as it seems now, incest was apparently more accepted back then. And if the Bible should be banned for genocide, then I suppose that every textbook that contains WWII should also be banned for the same reason. All of those things-- infanticide, genocide, incest, murder-- they were not planned by Him; this is where free will comes in again. People chose to do those things.

    Everyone, please-- show some love and respect. And God bless <3

  9. Hey anonymous, HOMOSEXUALITY IS NOT A CHOICE! That's what they are attracted to. They can't help it, the same way you can't help being attracted to who ever you are. Don't be a bigoted ass. "Let he who is with out sin cast the first stone."

  10. Bible does not teach evil however. I don't know why you think that. As for homosexuality take a simple look at both sexes' anatomy - they are unmistakeably designed for each other

  11. hmm, while this is fun! books shouldn't be banned. A lot of info is lost when silly religious peeps destroy books, so keep it. i think the list was so that parents would have an idea on appropriatenesss, but i'm a christian and some is v silly and over-protective...

  13. I suppose it's not particularly important for me to post anything on a site where the opinions are as ridiculous as this one's (including the intial post) - but then again, it's not important to post things anywhere, ultimately.
    Here's my two cents.
    I am an atheist.
    That's not necessarily relevant, but I'll let you know, so you can scan me for bias.
    Let's just ignore the ignorant. If you are 100% certain God exists, then you clearly don't have much in the way rational capabilities or you are wretchedly misinformed. There are scant few facts that support the biblical god's existence. There are some that might allow for a divine intervention in the creation of the universe, before the Big Bang - and you can either believe that it was or you can believe that we can't know. In fact, you're welcome, as far as I'm concerned, to think that dragons and fairies made the galaxies out of fudge and sprinkles. This is not an attack on Christians or Christianity. Surely we all realize it is a religion, and it is founded on FAITH. If you KNEW, it wouldn't be FAITH.
    To advocate the banning of the Bible, though, is just stupid. You've missed the entire point. We DON'T want the Bible banned. We don't want anything banned - except pure pornography.
    (As a matter of fact, though, I do believe babies being torn from their mothers' wombs is in the Bible - check Isaiah and Jeremiah if you don't remember. I'm sure it doesn't condone it, so much as it just says God did it. I distinctly recall passages concerning mothers eating the flesh of their babies, as well.)
    Point is, though, books needn't be banned. This is what America is about. Why aggravate eachother when we probably agree in the long run?
    HOWEVER
    Children's books can be in a library or not in a library and, frankly, I won't care. At all. Not even a little, eensy weensy bit.
    They're children's books. They aren't important.
    The real problem, and I can't seem to find any relevant literature or forums concerning this, is that we don't ban books we don't want people to read. We remove them.
    This is true.
    I noticed in my library, they had sold all the books not in favor of Israel two weeks after 9-11. This is no conspiracy. This is a fact. I checked at the counter. They told me I was right. They were removed that very week.
    Check also for Noam Chomsky at your local library. Check for books concerning Ngo Dien Diem, the bombing of SOUTH Vietnam, American support of Pol Pot during Vietnamese occupation of Cambodia and for Suharto during the Timorese genocide, or for books on the World Bank. Check for books concerning South and Middle American elections and Iran Contra. Check for books supporting Palestine.
    They exist. People write them. Why aren't they in the library? Because we remove them. They aren't wanted in the public domain - and there is no banning, no legislature, nothing. They just get disappear or they're never bought.
    I want to know how and by what selection this happens. Can you tell me?
    No intelligent adult cares about children's books. That is a front to keep people from investigating the true censorship.
    Noam Chomsky is one of the world's most all time quoted authors - up there with the Bible and the Quran. Yet most Americans haven't heard of him. Guess why? He writes books exposing America's military and corporate infrastructure. You know why it's so hard to find things concerning the health care systems of other first world country's?
    You do know why. Admit it, my friends.
    And if you don't realize that - whether you're Christian or atheist - you're the retard.

  14. Isn't it funny that it's a debate on censorship, and someone has to approve our comments before they appear? Anyone else find that funny?

  16. I am currently watching something on NatGeo that is discussing a book banned from the Bible, and so I searched Google for books banned in general from all types of governments, and found this forum. VERY interesting forum, I might add. I knew people who's parents wouldn't let them read a Stephen King novel because it was too graphic, yet they let them read the Bible, which depicts real life atrocities. Now I'm not saying that the Bible is good or bad, or should be banned or not banned. Nothing at all should be banned except information that could compromise our government and bring down the American society as we know it (although a little change in government wouldn't be bad, such as getting rid of all the people that are called liars...errr...I mean politicians). If one were to ban certain books, then they are banning ideas. If ideas are banned, then who controls us? And if a certain group controls us, what would we have? Certain ideas would be snuffed. If we allowed bans, would we have TV, Internet, cars, radios, airplanes, or even a country and government? Just think about it. What would banning certain books lead to? People make books and books make people.

  17. HAHAHA! I love religon buff's, theyre so cute. You argue with them untill you've proved the big man in the sky non existant and they run off to the computer to argue with a seven year old about it. DO some solid research man. find out where the christ legend came from. The earth is not 5000 years old, and everything dosnt revolve around your head. How are we still having this convorsation?

  18. Phil is right......God didnt make homosexuals like they are. They chose to be that way, God is a loving caring God but he also is a just God so Im sorry homo's God doesnt agree with any kind of relationship except 1 man and 1 woman. All christians let these people say what they want about not believing in God, for in the bible everyone has a unction from the holy one refering to God. Meaning each of us belive in God down deep, but whatever we confess with our mouths is what God is going to take. Whatever is in the heart the mouth speaks. Which is sad for all who reject Christ because everytime you mess up he is asking the father to forgive you for messing up. Oh and I do believe he died on the cross for you meaning you no longer have to sin.
    GOD BLESS you all hopefully you'll make the right decision before time is up.

    I like this statement, because this person accepts that some people, like myself, will choose not to have a religion and believe in nothing at all. Sometimes I feel like I am being pressured into being religious, such as when people say, "I'm sorry you don't believe in God because that means you're going to hell" or something along those lines.I don't read the bible, I don't go to church, I'm not religious, but that doesn't mean I'm a bad person and am condemned to an eternity of hell that I don't even believe in.

    p.s. i agree with the artical or wutev it is. i dnt think any book should be banned. when book hav been banned in countires b4 it was b/c the gov't was afraid tht the ppl would realize the gov't was opperssing (sp?) them. so why would we want to ban books in USA. tht woulds make it seem like our gov't (or church) is oppressing ppl.

  22. Gays must die

    ReplyDelete
  23. The god of the Bible is a complete fairy tale. Gay or straight, you Xtians need to wake up. The idea, that god created "perfect" man and homosexuality is a choice, is just subjective nonsense. After all, the body is full of imperfections that an all-knowing, all-powerful designer would not have made. The illusion that homosexuality is or isn't a choice is also just that, an illusion. Some people do choose to be gay. Some people live straight lives and then become gay later. Some people are gay from the beginning and stay that way. Some people become gay after abuse or traumatic experience. Some people are totally confused and flip flop. Genes might play a role, genes might not play a role. There's just no way to prove what definitively causes homosexuality. When the gay community argues that it is not a choice, they are not being totally truthful and this argument becomes self-defeating and lends a slight credibility to the opposition. Choice or not, what does that solve in the long run? This is a pointless battle. What we do know is that we are all here on this earth and we need to get along. The only way to do this is to lay down your dogmatic beliefs and practice tolerance. All people deserve the freedom to live their lives as they so desire, as long as that doesn't hurt anyone else. Intolerant Xtians are hurting people and it's time they are held responsible. Banning books just shows how intolerant and ignorant they are. Just because some of you more tolerant Xtians don't care what gay people do, doesn't mean jack shit if you don't actively speak against those that wish to eliminate their freedoms.

  24. Banning any form of written word is a great sign of weakness.

    If some of those in power are moved to ban a book for fear of sheeple, then perhaps their energies would be better spent teaching their people critical thinking...a concept the bible fully discourages.

    I am an Atheist, and there is a reason we Atheists refer to ourselves as "freethinkers"

  25. I got these from a fantasy book, that will probably be banned soon it has a sexual encounter. These quotes i think fit Christians and liberal extremist perfectly.

    People are stupid, they will believe something because they want it to be true; or they're afraid it's true.

    The greatest harm can result from the best intentions.

  26. You will with out any doubt pray to the God of all when you know for sure your body is failing. All of the people God created do. Even you. Read the NDE afterlife exp recorded by non believers and then just simply pray . God loves you. I hope you pray in secret and open your eyes to see God in your life. No one has to know . just take the chance and pray. You will see and believe if you just open your heart a little. Please. Brian
