In an outrageous radio interview the sweaty, bloated face leader of the catholic league, Bill Donohue, denies that child abuse occurred in Ireland, called the victims "gold diggers" and then tried to trivialise the scandal by bitching about how protestants weren't investigated and how we always pick on the poor little catholics.

This man is a seriously nasty piece of work and I'm frankly disgusted that catholics allow this fat shit to speak for them.

Catholics; Grow some balls, develop some integrity and exercise this morality you keep telling us about and publicly oppose everything this man says. Or would you rather, as you normally do, tow the party line and try to cover it up?

Infallibility Of Pope Questioned By Cardinal

A part of the dogma of Catholicism is the infallibility of the pope, The idea that the pope is preserved from even the possibility of error.

So when the pope decide to end the excommunication of Bishop Richard Williamson, The Holocaust denying Bishop, One would expect catholics to accept it. After all, The pope is "infallible", Isn't he? But what actually happened is they were almost unified in their condemnation (which is nice of them).

Even within the ranks there was descent with Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, The leader of the roman catholic church in England, Sending a letter to Dr Jonathan Sacks, the Chief Rabbi, saying the pope had done "great damage" with his "imprudent" remarks.

The Cardinal, in his letter, went on to say: "I am writing to express my dismay at the effect of the Vatican decree... Specifically I naturally deplore the comments made by the Englishman, Rev Williamson, in his denial of the full horror of the Holocaust. His statement and views have absolutely no place in the Catholic Church and its teaching."

So are catholics starting to question the authority of the pope? And does the pope harbour views he may been taught whilst he was in the Hitler youth.

Pope Benedict, you know the guy, ex-hitler youth, is set to become one of the oldest youtube "celebs" after setting up the Vatican channel, phew, finally.

Pope Praises Galileo's Astronomy

Pope Benedict XVI has paid tribute to 17th-Century astronomer Galileo Galilei, whose scientific theories once drew the wrath of the Catholic Church.

The Pope was speaking at events marking the 400th anniversary of Galileo's earliest observations with a telescope. He said an understanding of the laws of nature could stimulate appreciation of God's work.

Galileo was accused of heresy in 1633 and forced to publicly recant his theories. He lived the rest of his life under house arrest at his villa in the hills outside Florence.

PZ Myers Cracker Incident Ends In Sacking

cracker-gate, The incident which started with someone not eating a cracker and escalated into a respected science professor receiving death threats and calls for his sacking, has resulted in someone losing their job. Don't worry though, it's wasn't PZ Myers, It was one of the loving catholics who had the misfortune of giving her cretinous husband access to her work email to send a death threat to PZ Myers.

PZ decided, not long after receiving this disgusting hate mail, that he was going to publish any threats he received along with all identifying information, Such as the address it was sent from and the email headers, headers which contain IP addresses of the network of origin. This means the clever readers of pharyngula tracked down one of the people making death threats before they could even light their Sherlock Holmes pipe.

Chuck Kroll said in the email he sent from his wife's work computer that PZ had "two choices", That he could "quit your job for the good of the children. Or you can get your brains beat in", Then in true loving christian style he ended the email by calling him a "cunt".

After realising that she had kind of made a mistake in allowing her obviously cretinous and irresponsible husband access to an email account identifiable to her she fired off another email to PZ. In it Melany Kroll said that someone else must have sent the email, But that PZ shouldn't worry because the people she works with are "harmless". Yeah, Harmless, And prone to making death threats.

After an internal investigation, the Internet retailer decided to terminate Kroll's position stating; "All 1800Flowers.com associates are instructed that any misuse of company systems or equipment for personal purposes is potential grounds for dismissal".

It has been a bad week for Melanie Kroll and her husband but hopefully one in which they learned some valuable lessons. Melanie has learned that she is married to an imbecile and a liability and Chuck learned that threats, No matter how cowardly, Have consequences. PZ has found no satisfaction in the sacking of Melanie saying; "This was not my intent to get somebody fired "She apparently did something stupid, which I don't have sympathy for. A petition has since been set up asking 1800flowers.com to reinstate Melanie Kroll by readers of Pharyngula , PZ Myers blog. I think people should sign this. Mrs Kroll wasn't necessarily to blame for the content of the email, And it would be nice to show how reasonable we can be, even in the face of death threats and idiocy.

Sexism And Bigotry Still Strong In Christianity

More than 1,300 clergy have written to the Archbishop of Canterbury saying they will defect from the Church of England if women are consecrated as bishops.

Members of the group, which includes 11 serving bishops, say they will take decisive action if two votes are passed this weekend to allow female bishops.

Pope Says: We Need More Exorcists

The Pope has ordered his bishops to set up exorcism squads to tackle the rise of Satanism. Vatican chiefs are concerned at what they see as an increased interest in the occult.

After trying to blame Atheists for the worlds problems Pope Benedict XVI, The ex-Hitler youth member, Has finally said something that makes absolute sense. It's just a shame he can't use the same sense and logic and apply it to what he personally believes and teaches.

In a message he plans to send on world peace day the pope says that policies concerning global warming should be "based on evidence and science and not claims", Which is a brave thing to say for someone who's entire life philosophy is based on the exact opposite of evidence and science and exists entirely due to "claims". The pope said that predictions of ice cap melting due to CO2 emissions are from "prophets of doom" and are not based on "evidence" and that decisions should be "uninhibited by ideological pressure".

indicted on two counts of child pornography using the internet.

7% Of Priests Are Paedophiles

The scale of child abuse by priests remained hidden in the United States for years until the Archbishop of Boston confessed in 2002 to protecting a priest he knew had sexually abused young members of his church.

According to the group "Bishop Accountability," some 3000 priests out of the 42,000 across the country have since been denounced after abusing children, some of whom have been investigated and convicted.

There must be a reason why priests are so more likely to be paedophiles than the general public. It used to be the assumption that there were no more paedophiles in the church than anywhere else and that it only got reported more, But if the numbers from "bishop accountability" are anything to go by being a paedophile is almost a requirement.

Golden Compass Author Hits Back

The author of the book on which the new film The Golden Compass is based has hit back at critics who accuse him of peddling "candy-coated atheism".

Philip Pullman dismissed as "absolute rubbish" accusations by the US-based Catholic League that the film promotes atheism and denigrates Christianity.

Well, What Do YOU Believe?

I was having a beer with a Greek Orthodox friend of mine during the week and the topic of religion came up. Now as much as i enjoy a discussion about religion i don't particularly enjoy discussing religion with this friend for two reasons. Firstly he doesn't understand his own position well enough to discuss it, let alone mine, and secondly his idea of "discussion" is you shut up while i talk, Then you agree.

On this occasion though he got me thinking about something which inspired this blog post, So i thank him for that.

After i had explained to him that my disbelief in god does not equate a hatred for god any more than his disbelief in unicorns equates a hatred for them and that if he understood why he didn't believe in Thor he would be on the way to understanding why i don't believe in Yahweh he said "well, If you don't believe in god, what do you believe in?".

This question is usually well answered by saying something along the lines of "I believe in science, reason and evidence". But before i had a chance i trot out that well rehearsed answer to a facile question i realized what he meant.

He wasn't asking me what i believe in, He was asking me what i had replaced god with.

I realized that the question "what do you believe in" - A question often asked - Actually meant "what have you used to fill the void left by your disbelief in god" as if i am somehow missing something, As if i have a gap to fill that god once filled and as if the belief in a supernatural-sky-daddy was the default state of humans.

While the answer of "science, reason and evidence" is a good one, it isn't anything to do with a disbelief in god. It's not something exclusively believed by atheists because, While we know it's true, I doubt you could find a religious person willing to admit that they don't believe in science, reason and evidence, Even though they by-pass it when the conclusion they want to draw isn't supported by science, reason and evidence.

I advise that if you are asked this question again by a theist you ask them what they mean by it. There is no point giving an answer they understand to a question they don't realize they have asked.

$200 Million To Victims Of Paedophile Priests

The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego is about to pay out a huge $200 million to around 144 people who were victims of paedophile priests, Most during the 60's and 70's.

While this payout may seem big it pales in comparison to the $660 million previously paid out to 508 victims of paedophile priests who can't keep their hands off of small children.

Bishop Robert H Brom said; "The diocese has always been committed to resolving this litigation that fairly compensates these victims and would still preserve the ongoing ministries and programs of the church", Of course he failed to mention that six months previously on the eve of the trial the church claimed bankruptcy in an attempt to protect it's assets.

Do these scummy old perverts not know that god doesn't like kiddy fiddlers? It's odd that people who claim to have such a firm belief in the almighty would commit such terrible, wicked sins on vulnerable children who both trust and respect them.

What is it about Catholicism and child abuse? The two seem to go hand in hand. Anyone have any ideas?
